‘Una notte al museo': 8 museums in Rome opened on Saturday night

Till the end of December, every last Saturday of the month, 38 among cultural foundations and museums, all over Italy, will open from 8.00 p.m. to 12.00 p.m.: ‘Una notte al museo’, project by Cultural heritage and activities and Tourism departement, to increase the fruition of our artistic beauties.

Roma partecipates with 8 museums: Galleria Borghese, where visitors can admire painting by Antonello da Messina, Giovanni Bellini, Raffaello, Tiziano, Correggio, Caravaggio and sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Canova; Palazzo Altemps, historical building of the town, in Sant’Apollinare square, close to Navona square, currently is the location of Museo Nazionale Romano; Terme di Diocleziano, the greater one in the ancient Rome, built for Quirinale, Viminale and Esquilino areas, opened n 306; Crypta Balbi, a part of a complex of buildings between via Botreghe Oscure, via dei Polacchi, via dei Delfini e via Caetani, is a kind of urban archeological museum, inside the Museo Nazionale Romano; Palazzo Massimo, principal location of Museo Nazionale Romane, the others are the Terme of Diocleziano, Crypta Balbi and Palazzo Altemps, hosted the ancient art, the numismatica and goldsmithtry sections; Galleria nazionale d’arte moderna e contemporanea, guards 4.400 between painting and sculptures and 13.000 between drawings and prints, by artists operative between XIX and XX century but, on exhibit, into the 55 rooms, there are only 1.100 work of the whole collection; Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Valle Giulia, founded on 1889, collects all the Etruscan antiquities of Lazio, south Etruria and Umbria, among them the famous ‘Sarcofago degli sposi’. During the extraordinary opening, you can visit the works hosted in the museums, it will be possible to have a guided tour.
